All three phones have the same 6.83-inch screen with 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 3,200 nits. However, only the Pro and Ultra versions include the NXTPAPER coating and the dedicated NXTPAPER Key that switches the phone into a special low-power reading mode called Max Ink Mode. In that mode, the screen turns black and white, and the interface strips down to just essential apps and notifications.
TCL claims the phone can last up to seven days of active reading in Max Ink Mode.
The regular P80 keeps the same bright OLED panel but skips the NXTPAPER features entirely. If you want the eye-friendly reading experience, you will need to pick the Pro or the Ultra.

What this means for TCL P80 Series
Under the hood, the P80 Pro and P80 Ultra share most of the same core hardware. Both run on the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Elite chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM and a choice of 256GB or 512GB of storage. The battery is rated at 5,800mAh, and both phones support 45W wired charging. They also launch with Android 16 out of the box.

In terms of software support, TCL says the Ultra and Pro will receive four major Android OS updates and seven years of security patches. The standard P80 gets three major OS updates but the same seven-year security commitment.
Camera systems: How the Ultra stands apart
The biggest difference between the P80 Ultra and the P80 Pro is on the back. The Ultra has a triple-camera setup:

- 50MP 3x periscope telephoto(0.64-micron pixels)
- 8MP ultrawide
The P80 Pro drops the telephoto lens entirely. Its rear system includes the same 50MP main camera and an unnamed ultrawide shooter. TCL has not given the same level of detail about the Pro's ultrawide sensor.
The P80 Ultra also carries an IP68 dust and water resistance rating, which means it can survive being submerged in fresh water. TCL has not officially announced an IP rating for the P80 Pro.
For the base P80, you get a 50MP main camera and an unnamed secondary shooter. The camera setup is clearly where TCL saved cost to hit the lower price.
US launch timeline and pricing picture
TCL launched the P80 series in Europe starting on September 3, 2026. The company also plans to release the phones in Latin America from October 2026.

What to expect from real-world use
The NXTPAPER OLED screen is the star of the show, but the rest of the package matters too. The 45W wired charging is decent but not the fastest on the market. The 5,800mAh battery is large and should easily get most users through a full day, and the Max Ink Mode is a real battery extender for heavy readers.
The camera system on the Ultra is versatile thanks to the 3x periscope lens, but early hands-on reports note that TCL's image processing still lags behind bigger rivals like Samsung or Google. That does not mean the photos will be bad, but if camera quality is your top priority, you may want to see real-world samples first.
