Poco F9 Pro and F9 Ultra: Big batteries, 185Hz screens, and a hidden chip choice

The Poco F9 Pro and Poco F9 Ultra are now official, and they bring some numbers that grab attention. We are talking about a 185Hz refresh rate screen, a battery that can reach 8,050mAh on the high-end model, and a new version of Qualcomm's latest processor that most people had not heard about until today.

Poco, the Xiaomi sub-brand known for stuffing flagship features into lower prices, split its latest lineup into two distinct phones. The Poco F9 Ultra is the big beast. Qualcomm quietly introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series in early August 2026. The chip shares the same CPU layout as the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5: two 4.6GHz Prime cores and six 3.62GHz Performance cores. It also keeps the same Hexagon NPU, Sensing Hub, and X85 5G modem. The key difference is inside the Adreno 840 GPU.

The full Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 uses a three-slice design for its GPU. The V Series chip uses a two-slice design. Fewer slices means less raw rendering power, especially for ray-traced graphics in demanding games. The V Series also has a smaller Adreno High Performance Memory cache: 12MB versus 18MB. Everything else matches.

Real-world performance: Does the V Series cut hurt?

For everyday tasks — scrolling through apps, watching video, taking photos — the V Series chip feels no different than the full-fat version.Asphalt 9: Legends runs fast and smooth on the F9 Pro, and the 185Hz HyperRGB AMOLED display makes everything look fluid. The screen on the F9 Pro measures 6.59 inches with a 2510 x 1156 resolution and a peak brightness of 4,500 nits. (The typical brightness of 850 nits matters more for daily use.) The F9 Ultra's screen is larger at 6.9 inches with a 2608 x 1200 resolution.

If you play graphically intense games at maximum settings for long periods, the F9 Ultra's three-slice GPU can push higher frame rates and better thermal performance. For most people, the F9 Pro will feel just as fast. Both phones include a dedicated 12nm VisionBoost D8 graphics chip that handles AI frame insertion and super-resolution processing.

Bose speakers and the subwoofer difference

Poco worked with Bose on audio tuning for both phones. The F9 Pro has two symmetrical full-range stereo speakers. They sound clear and balanced, with vocals sitting nicely against the mids. The F9 Ultra adds an independent 1620 rear subwoofer, creating a 2.1-channel setup. When you listen side by side, the Ultra adds depth — not just extra bass, but richer vocals and more detail. Cameras and a massive battery in both models

The F9 Pro packs a 200-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization and 4K video recording. The secondary cameras include a 50MP telephoto lens with 2.5x optical zoom and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor. The F9 Ultra steps up to a 50MP periscope telephoto with 5x optical zoom and a 50MP ultra-wide sensor. Both phones use a 32MP selfie camera up front.

The battery is a major talking point. The F9 Pro holds a 6,330mAh battery. The F9 Ultra goes much bigger with an 8,050mAh silicon-carbon cell that has a 16% silicon content ratio. Charging speeds are identical across both models:

• Wireless reverse charging: 22.5W

Both phones carry an IP68 dust and water resistance rating and run Xiaomi HyperOS 3 out of the box.

Pricing, colors, and where to buy

Poco set the F9 Pro's starting price at $699 for the 12GB/256GB model. An early-bird deal drops it to $649. The 12GB/512GB version costs $769, or $699 early bird. The F9 Ultra starts at $799 for 12GB/256GB (early bird $729), moves to $949 for 16GB/512GB (early bird $799), and tops at $1,199 for 16GB/1TB (early bird $1,059).

The F9 Pro comes in Black, White, and Aurora Green — the green version features a glow-in-the-dark rear cover. The F9 Ultra is sold in Black and Dark Cherry with a glass fiber finish and interactive lighting accents. Poco does not sell phones directly in the US, but the F9 Pro and F9 Ultra will be available in the UK, Europe, and other global regions through the Poco Global page.

Color options for the F9 Pro are Black, White, and Aurora Green. The F9 Ultra comes in Black and Dark Cherry.
